This is a classic of New York street food.
Ingredients:
8 Vienna beef hot dogs
8 hot dog buns (with poppy seeds)
100g onions, mined
100g tomatoes, blanched, peeled, de-seeded and finely died
200ml American-style yellow mustard
200ml sauerkraut
50g butter
Method:
Melt the 50g of the butter in a frying pan, add the onions and fry for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden brown. Now add the tomatoes and cook gently for about 5 minutes or until the tomatoes break down. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook gently for about 5 minutes more, or until the sauce thickens.
Bring a large pan of water to a boil, add the hot dog sausages and boil for about 8 minutes, or until plump. Drain the hot dogs then place in the buns. Top with 2 tbsp each of the mustard, sauerkraut and tomato and onion sauce.
Place each hot dog in the centre of a piece of deli wrap (or use greaseproof paper). Arrange the fries next to them. Wrap the hotdog and the fries in the paper and serve.
