Welcome to the summary page for FabulousFusionFood's Edible Flowers guide to Rose Petals along with all the Rose Petals containing recipes presented on this site, with 30 recipes in total.
This is a continuation of an entire series of pages that will, I hope, allow my visitors to better navigate this site. As well as displaying recipes by name, country and region of origin I am now planning a whole series of pages where recipes can be located by meal type and main ingredient. This page gives a listing of all the Cornish recipes added to this site.
These recipes, all contain Rose Petals as a major edible flower.
The Rose Rosa spp is a perennial flowering shrub or vine in the family Rosaceae (rose family) that is predominantly native to Asia, with smaller numbers of species native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. The rose's predominant features are its leaves which are alternate and pinnately compound, with sharply toothed oval-shaped leaflets, the curved spines commonly found on its stems and its scented flowers. Rose flowers are complex and the petals are typically edible.
In most cases the petal bases bear a bitter, pale, base that needs to be cut off before the flower can be used. The most sought-after rose flowers are either from the wild roses or from very scented roses. They make excellent floral additions to salads and can also be made into ice crams, preserves and sauces. Of the wild roses, the most commonly sought-after for their petals are the Dog Rose Rosa canina and the Rugose Rose Rosa rugosa.
