Translation

Another Sweet: Mix pepper, [chopped] nuts, honey, rue and passum. Cook in milk and pastry. Thicken with a little egg and bake. Pour honey over, sprinkle with pepper and serve.

Modern Redaction

Ingredients:

250g cooked pastry, finely crumbled
70g ground almonds
1/2 tsp freshly-ground black pepper
1/2 tsp dried rue (or rosemary), crumbled
60ml passum
4 tbsp honey
150ml milk (about)
1 egg

Method:

In a bowl, combine the crumbled pastry, pepper, almonds and rue (or rosemary). Beat the egg in a bowl until frothy then work in the passum and honey. Stir this mixture into the pastry mix then add the milk until you have a smooth, thick, batter.

Turn the batter into a springform cake tin then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 180°C and bake for about 25 minutes, or until the cake is firm. Remove from the oven, allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin then turn out onto a wire rack. The cake works well if topped with a little honey at this point.
