Divide the dates between four individual serving dishes and set aside.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and continue heating until it begins to bubble. Reduce the heat then add the cinnamon. Scatter the butter over the flour then stir to mix until smooth. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, for 3 minutes, or until you have a soft paste.
Divide the sauce evenly between the four dishes and allow to cool. Sprinkle with icing sugar and serve.
