In essence this is a pre-prepared camper's baking mix. It can be used as the base for a whole range of baked goods. It is especially useful to those out camping, fishing or foraging as it can be made ahead and is readily available as the basis for a dish to be made with whatever you have caught or foraged.
Ingredients:
1.12kg plain flour
420g milk powder
5 tbsp brown sugar
5 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp salt
420ml vegetable oil (use sunflower oil for a neutral taste or grape seed oil if you prefer more flavour)
Method:
Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl then add the vegetable oil and cut in with two pastry knives (or a pastry blender) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Spoon into freezer bags and store in the freezer until needed. (Most recipes incorporating this baking mix on this site begin with 300g of the mix and I would suggest you store it in those quantities.)
