This classic autumnal treat is great for serving on Halloween or Bonfire night (or both!).

Ingredients:

6 red dessert apples
350g granulated sugar
50g flaked or coarsely-chopped almonds
vegetable oil, for greasing

Method:

Push a lolly stick (or a trimmed chopstick) into the stalk end of each apple.

In the meantime, add the sugar to a medium-sized pan over medium heat. As the sugar begins to melt gently swirl it around the pan so it does not burn. As soon as all he sugar has melted carefully add the almonds and stir to combine.

Take the apples and dip, one at a time, into the caramel, turning then to ensure they are thoroughly and evenly coated. Remove from the pan then set upright on a well-greased baking tray to cool and harden before transferring to a plate and serving.
