Burning Stare Skull Cake is a modern American recipe for a cake covered with icing in the shape of the skull that has sugar cubes dipped in peppermint extract that are set alight for the eyes and which makes an excellent centrepiece for Halloween. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic American version of: Burning Stare Skull Cake.
Prepare your favourite cake base, or choose one of the recipes above. Bake the cake in a tin about 22 x 30cm then cool in the tin before inverting onto a plate and decorating with chocolate icing. When the chocolate icing has set use the white icing to paint a skull shape on top of the cake.
Add the candy corn to give the skull teeth. When ready to serve, soak the sugar cubes in the peppermint extract. Place these in the eye sockets. Turn down the lights, set the sugar cubes alight with a match and serve immediately.
