If you want crispy and healthy crisps (chips) made at home, then the air fryer really is the way to go. You get crisp and crunchy potato slivers with almost no oil in sight. For potatoes I prefer King Edwards or Desiree (Russet, Dutch Cream or Red Royal if you are in the US). Due to their popularity, crisps can be cited as one of the national foods of Britain.
Ingredients:
2 potatoes
1 ½ tablespoon vegetable oil
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and freshly-ground black Pepper to taste
Chilli Flakes (optional)
Method:
Wash the potatoes thoroughly with clean water. Either peel the skin, or leave the skin on; it’s your choice. I usually scrub with a brush and leave the skins on.
Use a slicer (a mandoline works best) or slice it using a sharp knife, making certain that the potato slices are as evenly cut as possible.
Add the slices to a large bowl of water, leaving them to soak for 20 minutes. After this, carefully wash the potato slices 4-5 times to remove all the excess starch.
Drain the potatoes then set between paper towels and allow them to blot dry.
Transfer the potatoes into a mixing bowl to add oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, mixing well to evenly coat the slices.
In the meantime, pre-heat your air fryer to 190C (375F) for 5 minutes.
Arrange the seasoned potato slices in your air-fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure not to overcrowd the basket to avoid uneven cooking. Transfer to the pre-heated air fryer potatoes and cook for 15 minutes. Toss the potatoes halfway through the cooking process to ensure they crisp on both sides.
Remove the potato crisps (chips) from the basket, serve and enjoy your crispy air fryer potato crisps (chips).
