This is a continuation of an entire series of pages that will, I hope, allow my visitors to better navigate this site. As well as displaying recipes by name, country and region of origin I am now planning a whole series of pages where recipes can be located by meal type and main ingredient. This page gives a listing of all the Canapes recipes added to this site.
These recipes, all contain Canapes as a major wild food ingredient.
The word canapé literally means 'setee' or 'sofa' in French and this is because, traditionally at least, canapés were little platforms of pastry or buttered, fried or toasted bread for tasty things to sit on.
These days, however, the name encompasses all kinds of bite-sized appetisers that can be eaten with the fingers, leaving the other hand free to hold a drink.
