Tsebhi Shiro (Tigrinya: ጸብሒ ሽሮ) is a dish originating from Northern Ethiopia (where its known as Shiro Wot) and Southern Eritrea whose primary ingredient is powdered chickpeas, broad bean meal or powdered peanuts.
Ingredients:
500g raw dry peanuts
100g ghee (or butter)
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 small onions
2 tsp mixed spices (your choice)
salt and black pepper to taste
Method:
Shell the peanuts, clean and grind to a fine powder. Add all the remaining ingredients to a saucepan with 500ml water. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Then add the peanuts and cook for a further 20 minutes.
