Tsebhi Sega (Spicy Minced Meat) is a traditional Eritrean recipe for a classic stew of beef or lamb cooked in a tomato-based sauce with Berbere spice and herbed butter. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic Eritrean version of: Spicy Minced Meat (Tsebhi Sega).

Ingredients:
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 tbsp vegetable oil
50g Berbere spice
50g Tegelese Tesmi (Herbed butter)
1 tsp chopped ginger
1 tsp chopped garlic
6 large tomatoes, blanched and peeled
1 kg beef or lamb, cut into strips and shredded
salt and black pepper, to taste
Method:
Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the onions until lightly golden then add the berbere spice and the Tegelese Tesmi (herbed butter) and a little water. Allow to simmer on a low flame for about 8 minutes. Add the ginger, garlic and tomatoes then season and cook for a further five minutes. Now add the meat and simmer until done (about 40 minutes), adding a little more water as necessary.
