Ingredients:
250g self-raising flour
60g butter
30g caster sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp black treacle (molasses)
pinch of salt
140ml milk
Method:
Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub the butter into this. Mix in the sugar, cinnamon, treacle and enough milk to make a soft dough. Tip onto a floured surface and knead until moist and elastic. Roll out to some 1.2 cm thick and cut into rounds with a 6cm pastry cutter.
Grease a baking sheet and place the scone rounds on this. Brush with a little milk and bake in an oven pre-heated to 220°C for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool Serve warm, split in half and smothered ini butter.
