Shigni (Somali Hot Sauce) is a traditional Somali recipe for a classic hot sauce made from a blend of red chillies, tomatoes and coriander leaves soured with lemon juice and tamarind. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic Somali version of: Somali Hot Sauce (Shigni).
Combine all the ingredients in a blender. Process on high speed for about 4 minutes. After this time scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure all the tamarind pulp is well blended. Blitz a few more times to ensure the sauce is smooth.
Serve slightly chilled with rice or spaghetti. This also makes an excellent dipping sauce and can be refrigerated to keep for a few days.
