Mozzarella-stuffed Mushrooms: A British recipe for a starter or party snack of mushroom caps with a cheese, bacon, onion and breadcrumb filling that's baked to cook.
Carefully remove the stems from the mushrooms (chop these stems finely).
Heat a small amount of butter or oil in a frying pan. Add the bacon, mushroom stems, onion and garlic and stir-fry for about 6 minutes, or until soft and just lightly coloured.
Drain off any excess liquid then stir in the breadcrumbs, oregano and salt. Take off the heat and allow to cool slightly then use this mixture to stuff the mushrooms.
Arrange on a lightly-greased baking tray, then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 180°C and bake for 10 minutes, or until the stuffing is lightly browned.
