Jalapeño Wonton Puffs: An American recipe for a party snack of wonton wrappers filled with a blend of cheese and jalapeno chillies that are formed into triangles and deep fried to cook.
Ingredients:
240g cream cheese, softened (or you can use my
home-made cream cheese recipe to prepare your own)
120g mild Cheddar cheese, grated
120g tin or jar of jalapeño chillies, drained and diced
1 tsp fresh garlic, minced
3 spring onions, finely chopped
freshly-ground black pepper, to taste
500g
wonton wrappers
1l vegetable oil, for deep frying
Method:
Combine the cream cheese, grated cheese, jalapeño chillies, garlic and spring onions in a bowl. Mix thoroughly with a fork then season to taste with freshly-ground black pepper.
Take each wonton wrapper at a time and fill with about 1 tsp of the cream cheese mixture. Fold the wrappers into triangles then press the edges with a moistened fork to seal.
Heat the oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. When it reaches about 180°C, drop in about 4 wontons at a time. Fry quickly, turning once, until golden brown and cooked through.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper as you cook the next wonton.
Serve warm, accompanied by a sweet chilli dip.
If you are being conscious of you health, you can brush the wontons with a little oil, then baking in an oven for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown rather than deep frying them.
