Air Fryer Bolognese Sauce is a modern British recipe for preparing a bolognese sauce that's adapted to be cooked in an air fryer. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic British version of: Air Fryer Bolognese Sauce.
225g (8 oz) lean minced (ground) beef
85g (3 oz) onion (about ½ small onion)
30g (1 oz) carrot (about ½ medium carrot)
30g (1 oz) celery (about ½ celery stick)
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
400g (14 oz) tin crushed tomatoes
50ml (1/5 cup) red wine (or substitute stock)
½ tbsp dried parsley
½ tbsp dried oregano
½ tbsp dried basil
salt and freshly-ground black pepper, to taste
Method:
Crumble the minced (ground) beef as finely as you can (If you leave it in large pieces, it won’t cook thoroughly).
Mince the garlic and chop the onion into 1cm (½-in) dice. Chop the celery and carrot into ¼-inch 5mm (1/5 in) dice (or smaller). It is important to chop the celery and carrot very small so they’ll soften faster on cooking.
Pre-heat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 5 minutes.
Carefully put the minced beef on about half of a heated air fryer tray (or dish). Place the onions, celery, carrot, and garlic on the other half of the tray. Drizzle olive oil over the vegetables then place the tray (or dish) in your pre-heated air fryer.
Air fry for 5 minutes and crumble the ground beef up a little more if needed. As the carrots and celery won’t get too much softer in the sauce, air fry them for a few more minutes if needed.
Line a 20 x 20cm (8 x 8-in) pan with parchment paper. Transfer the cooked meat and vegetables to the pan. Add the crushed tomatoes, wine or stock, parsley, oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper then stir well to combine.
Cover the pan tightly with foil then transfer to your air fryer and cook for 35-45 minutes. Let the sauce cool for 5 minutes.
Serve the Bolognese sauce over your favourite pasta or spiralized vegetables, top with finely-grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired. Spaghetti squash is also a great choice, as this can be cooked in the air fryer (see my recipe for air-fryer spaghetti squash).
