Pastai Tatws (Potato Pie)

Pastai Tatws (Potato Pie) is a traditional Welsh (Cymric) recipe for a classic accompaniment of creamed potatoes mixed with cheese that are baked in a pie dish lined with butter and breadcrumbs. 150ml llefrith
30g menyn
90g briwsion bara wedi sychu mewn popty
900g tatws wedi plicio a chwarteru
120g caws Cheddar wedi gratio
halen a phupur du
menyn wedi toddi

Dull:

Berwch y tatws mewn dŵr glân nes yn barod (tua 35 munud) cyn eu sychu, eu cynysgu gyda'r menyn a'r llefrith a'u stwnsio'n llyfn. Ychwanegwch y caws i'r gymysgfa ac yna'r halen a'r pupur. Cymysgwch yn drwyadl. Irwch ddesgil pastai tua 1l cyn ei orchuddio gyda'r briwsion bara (gwasgwch hwy i waelod ac ochrau'r ddesgil gyda chefn llwy). Ychwanegwch y gymysgfa caws a tatws a gnewch riciau at y gwyneb gyda fforc. Brusiwch y gwyneb gyda menyn wedi toddi yna rhowch y ddesgil mewn popty wedi cyn-gynhesu i 200°C (400°F/Gas Mark 6) a phobwch am tua hanner awr, nes fod pen y tatws yn euraidd. Gweinwch gyda phicl a bara.

English Translation


Ingredients:

150ml milk
30g butter
90g toasted breadcrumbs
900g potatoes, peeled and quartered
120g grated cheese
salt and black pepper
melted butter

Method:

Boil the potatoes in unsalted water until tender (about 35 minutes). Drain then add the butter and milk and mash until smooth. Add the cheese, season and mix thoroughly.

Grease a pie dish of about 1l in volume and scatter the breadcrumbs over, pressing them into the sides and base of the dish with the back of a spoon. Add the potato mixture then press down and roughen the top with a fork. Place in an oven pre-heated to 200°C (400°F/Gas Mark 6) and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the surface of the potatoes is golden. Served with pickles and crusty bread.
