This is a classic Cornish supper dish, which originates from the 1880s.
Method:
Turn the pastry onto a lightly-floured work surface and roll out thinly. Grease the well of a 12-well patty tin, cut out rounds from the pastry with a round pastry cutter and use to line the base of the wells.
Mix together the almonds and sugar in a bowl. Melt the chocolate in a microwave or a bain-marie, then beat the egg in another bowl. Alternately add the egg and chocolate into the almond and sugar mix. Use this mixture to fill the pastry cases then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 200°C and bake for about 12 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
Allow to cool in the tin and serve warm.
