The flower buds of common hogweed are probably the tastiest part of the plant and can be used in place of broccoli as an accompaniment. Here they are steamed to cook and finished by tossing in melted butter before serving.
Ingredients:
12 common hogweed flower buds
4 tbsp butter
salt and freshl-ground black pepper
Method:
Wash and drain the common hogweed flower buds then place in a steamer basket. Bring a pan of water to a boil, place the steamer basket on top, secure the lid and steam for 12-15 minutes until tender.
In the mantime, melt the butter in a wok or large frying pan. Add in the steamed hogweed flower buds and toss in the butter to coat. Season to taste with salt and black pepper then serve.
