Breadfruit crisps (chips) are a traditional St. Lucian snack that embodies the hearty and vibrant flavour of the Caribbean. They are made from breadfruit, a highly prized fruit known for its versatility and nutty flavour. These chips are crispy, delicious, and perfect as finger food or for snacking on the go. Whether you're planning a feast or just want a snack at home, breadfruit chips are an excellent choice. For seasoning, I typically use a mix of smoked paprika, salt, hot chilli powder and crumbled oregano.
Ingredients:
1 ripe breadfruit
2 tbsp olive oil
1-2 tsps sea salt
Seasonings of your choice (e.g., paprika, garlic powder, hot chilli powder, crumbled dried oregano, fine sea salt)
Method:
Cut the breadfruit into thin slices then transfer these to a bowl and toss with olive oil and seasoning.
Arrange the breadfruit slices in an even layer on a greased baking tray.
Transfer to an oven pre-heated to 180C and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
Enjoy with your choice of dip or serve as an accompaniment.
