Russian Caramels is a traditional British recipe for a classic hard sweet or candy made from a boiled down mix of sugar, and milk with a little condensed milk. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic British version of: Russian Caramels.
Combine all the ingredients (except the vanilla) in a saucepan and gently bring to a boil over low heat, stirring frequently. Allow to boil for 15 minutes, or until it reaches the soft ball stage (where sugar syrup dropped into cold water will form a soft, flexible ball. If you remove the ball from water, it will flatten like a pancake after a few moments in your hand).
Remove from the heat and stir-in the vanilla. Beat until the mixture is creamy and just begins to thicken then pour into a well-greased baking tin. Cut into squares whilst still warm then allow to cool completely and break the squares apart.
