Here is a classic Chinese dessert dish, one for anyone who thinks that Chinese desserts are just about fritters!

Ingredients:

4 pears, medium-ripe or slightly-under ripe
200ml water
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp runny honey

Method:

Peel the pears, leaving them intact and keeping the stalks attached. Wrap each pear in kitchen foil then arrange in a saucepan, with the stems resting on the side of the pan. Add just enough water to come half way up the pears then bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes then remove the pears and carefully take off the foil, reserving any pear juices.

Place the pears on a dish and set aside to cool.

Combine the 200ml water and any pear juices in a small pan. Add the sugar and honey then bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Take the pan off the heat and set aside to cool.

To serve, arrange the pears in small individual dishes. Pour over a little syrup. Serve just warm.
