Old Time Vanilla Ice Cream is a traditional British recipe (based on an American original) for a classic old-fashioned rich ice cream made from a condensed milk and cream custard sweetened with sugar and flavoured with vanilla extract that's churned in an ice cream machine and which makes an excellent birthday treat. Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 tin (250ml) sweetened condensed milk
50g sugar
50g brown sugar
600ml whipping cream
600ml single cream
1/4 tsp salt
2 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
Method:
Whisk together the eggs then add the condensed milk and continue whisking until thoroughly mixed. Now add the sugars and mix thoroughly to combine before adding the whipping cream, single cream, salt and vanilla extract. Whisk to make certain the sugar has all dissolved then place in the refrigerator for 4 hours to chill.
Pour the mixture into the bowl of an ice cream machine and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
