Hot Wings in Haw Sauce is a modern British recipe for a classic twist on the 'hot and sticky chicken wings' idea that uses a hoisin-like sauce made from wild haws as the base for the wings' coating. The full recipe is presented here and I hope you enjoy this classic British version of: Hot Wings in Haw Sauce.
Whisk together all the ingredients (except the wings) in a bowl. Place the wings in a strong plastic bag, pour over the sauce then seal the bag and place in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 60 minutes, turning frequently to ensure even coating.
At the end of this time remove the chicken wings from the marinade and arrange them in the base of a deep-sided baking dish. Pour half the marinade over the top then cove with foil and transfer to an oven pre-heated to 180°C. Bake for 30 minutes then remove the foil covering and turn the wings over.
Return to the oven and bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Every 5 minutes, for the next 20 minutes, turn the wings over and baste with the remaining sauce.
When the wings are ready transfer to a warmed serving bowl, pour over 2 tbsp of the sauce and serve with coleslaw and potato wedges.
