Chocolate and orange always go well together and it's a classic Christmas combination. Here is a fudge flavoured with orange and chocolate that makes an excellent treat or even a home-made gift for Christmas.

Ingredients:

100g milk chocolate
100g dark chocolate
380g tin of sweetened condensed milk
75g chopped pecan nuts (optional)
2 tsp finely-grated orange zest
strips of orange zest, for decoration

Method:

Bring a small pan of water to a boil, add the strips of orange zest (use a potato peeler to make these) and boil for 5 minutes. Drain the zest strips, allow to cool then cut into strips crosswise and set aside.

Cut the chocolate into small pieces and combine with the condensed milk in to top of a double boiler (bain-marie). Heat gently, stirring constantly, until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.

Take off the heat, then stir the pecan nuts and grated orange zest into the chocolate mix.

Turn this mixture into a baking tin (about 20 x 20 x 5cm) lined with buttered greaseproof (waxed) paper. Spread out evenly then set aside to cool. Once cool, cover with clingfilm (plastic wrap) and refrigerate until firm.

Carefully remove the fudge from the pan (use the edges of the paper to help you lift it out of the tin. Cut into squares, decorate with a sliver of orange zest.

Store in a lidded box in the refrigerator.
