Ingredients:
4 slices white bread
3 tbsp milk
100g sugar
250ml water
4 cardamom pods, crushed
oil or ghee for frying
2 tbsp pistachio nuts, to garnish
Method:
Trim off the crusts from the bread, place in a dish and drizzle over the milk. Tear the bread into small pieces then mash with your hands until the bread comes together as a dough. If the mixture is dry, add a little more milk.
Pour the water into a pan, add the sugar and cardamom pods. Bring to a boil and cook until the mixture thickens to a syrup. Take off the heat and set aside.
Form the bread into balls then heat the oil or ghee to a depth of about 2cm in a wok. Add the bread balls and fry over medium heat until golden brown all over.
Drain the fired bread balls, drop into the cardamom syrup and set aside to soak for 30 minutes.
Turn the fried bread and syrup into a dish, garnish with a few pistachio nuts and serve.
